VICTORIA – Jan Beitema paid into an insurance policy with Sun Life thinking if she fell ill it would cover her. But after surviving breast cancer, she is now fighting to have her long term disability benefits extended. Shes unable to work, a statement corroborated by her employer, and she says she suffers from chronic pain and fatigue. Appeals to have her benefits extended beyond a two year policy term were denied, without discussion she says. She is now awaiting more medical confirmation of her condition from a Rheumatologist, in hopes of overturning the decision. Sun Life said in a statement today they will now review here case further.
